About a month after the CD came out, Universal made both Second Report and the First Report available in FLAC on Mora.jp. It’s cool to see them embrace lossless, but unfortunately, they charge double compared to the 320kbps AAC versions.

Super Anime Remix Super Best

Super Anime Remix Super Best originally came out in July of 2009, but about a year later it was discontinued and any trace of it was expunged from Dreamusic’s site. The 2CD+DVD set became quite a rarity. Then in 2015, SARSB randomly popped up on iTunes with all 50 songs completely intact in non-stop mix form. The kicker, however, was that they didn’t allow for the album to be purchased as a whole, meaning you’d have to buy each of the tracks individually for 200 yen. That means 10,000 yen for the entire album. Yeah, good luck with that.

The sequel to Anison Trance Laboratory is out, and despite the previous releases in the series being produced by Ace Closer, Universal have gone in a different direction and hired DJ Kenzi to produce the sequel. Instead of trance, the album now mainly features hardcore and drum ‘n’ bass. Visit the official website for more info.

New anison cover series, featuring the best of denpa songs. Pretty interesting track list, with a mix of classics and newer stuff. Can’t seem to find any samples, but I usually associate denpa with electronic music and high-pitched vocals.

I’ve been meaning to cover this series for a while, if only for the increasingly ridiculous sports terms in the titles. The Chou Ultra Anison Cover Mix!! series is brought to you courtesy of SCM Music, the parent label of Full Moon/Akiba Koubou. The series began in April of 2014 and, as the title suggests, features covers of anime songs. Each CD is non-stop mix by DJ Mixa, with a “simple freedom” mix style, whatever that means. Samples are available online on various retailer sites like HMV, but it doesn’t look like any of the albums are available digitally.

Cover art has been revealed, and a few new additional tracks have been announced. “Sorairo Days” is probably the most out-of-place pick, since I thought they were aiming to have songs from more recent shows. Vocalist have also been announced, and it looks like mostly idol groups. Still no word on who will be producing the individual tracks, or what genres will be represented.

Update (2/22/15): A few new details have emerged. The album will be produced by DJ Kenzi, who some may remember produced and mixed Meganimation a couple of years ago. That seems to be a good sign that the album will lean towards a speed trance sound. Cover art will be drawn by Kaworu Watashiya. 18 songs are planned.
