Techno Pop Anime

A new 2-disc compilation coming from EMI. As the title implies, it will feature techno, trance, and house covers of popular anime tracks. Disc 1 will be a nonstop mix, while a bonus disc will feature instrumental and a cappella versions. 2381 yen for two discs isn’t half bad.

Whereas CM Trance is made up of only J-Trance, Sagyouyou Trance appears to feature only western-style trance. Looking over the list, I still don’t get how it (or, for that matter, the cover) relates to the theme.

Baby Trance. I wish I was kidding. My best guess is that this will have trance covers of lullabies, though I have a sneaking suspicion that “Caramelldansen” and “Sousei no Aquarion” will show up no matter what.
It’s almost as if Quake purposely choose every theme except the one I actually want: VGM Trance.

The main Exit Trance series has been floundering lately. The influx of anime tracks beginning with Exit Trance #05 was bad enough, but the fact that the seventh release didn’t even have a single new song was just unforgivable. The upcoming eighth release in the series promises to have songs from DJ Yoshinori, Cascada, DJ Murauchi, and Kindervater, though it remains to be seen if the songs will actually be new.

Aside from “Sousei no Aquarion,” there’s one other anime theme that’s seemingly showed up on every anime dance compilation ever. Somehow Quake have managed to avoid covering this particular song. Rememeber when I said that Quake wanted to make trance covers out of anything and everything possible? I wasn’t kidding. Sagyouyou translates to “work,” so “Sagyouyou BGM” is basically music one listens to while at work. And you thought Speed Buyuuden was a strangely themed album.
Okay, it’s really not as strange as you may think. A little further research reveals that a lot of people at work listen to music on NicoNico Douga, which is the Japanese equivalent of YouTube. That’s right: a lot of Sagyouyou BGM is just anime songs. There’s no tentative list yet, but expect a lot of anime songs and “Souse no Aquarion” for the 127th time.
