Moshi Moshi (Single)
Artist: Smile.dk
Release Date: 6/5/12

American Smile.dk fans rejoice! After switching distributors, Smile.dk have finally made the song available on US iTunes! Smile.dk recently returned to the studio as well, so hopefully Makeup Collection is still on track for a 2012 release.

Moshi Moshi (Single)
Artist: Smile.dk
Release Date: 12/16/11

Still no update on “Moshi Moshi” being released in the US. In fact, Smile.dk seem to have disappeared completely from most US distributors. I’m guessing their new label reacquired international rights to their back catalog, but hopefully everything will be up again eventually. In the meantime, they’ve released a new music video for the song, so US fans can finally hear it in full:

Baby Boom (Single)
Artist: Smile.dk
Release Date: 2012

Good news, everyone! Hot off the heels of Cecilia’s pregnancy, Veronica just announced that she’s pregnant with her second child. To celebrate, they’ve written a new song called “Baby Boom.” The title alone sounds like it’ll make for prime bubblegum dance. No release date has been set yet, as the song is still in production.

Moshi Moshi (Single)
Artist: Smile.dk
Release Date: 12/16/11

Moshi moshi! The new Smile.dk is finally out on Swedish iTunes, and you can also hear a snippet on their official website. Cecilia sounds lovely, as does Veronica as usual. The best part is that it’s not a simple “Butterfly” retread, which was my biggest fear. No word yet on when it will appear on US iTunes, or if we’ll get any remixes, but 2012 is definitely looking like it’ll be an exciting year for Smile.dk fans.

Moshi Moshi (Single)
Artist: Smile.dk
Release Date: 2011

It’s been a while since the last Smile.dk update. For those not following their Facebook account, Makeup Collection has been delayed due to Cecilia’s pregnancy (Congratulations!), but the duo have since announced that the first single off the album will be released soon on iTunes. Titled “Moshi Moshi,” it seems like it will be another Japan-themed song. Just, please, don’t let the word “butterfly” be in it.

Still no word on when the album will be released, but their record label has mentioned that in addition to remakes of their greatest hits there’ll also be 8 new songs. Looking forward to it!

Party Around the WorldParty Around the World ~Nico Nico.dk ga Yattekitaaaaaa~
Release Date: 7/21/10
Price: 2405 yen

Party Around the World finally gets a Japanese release courtesy of Dreamusic, and they went all out for it. In addition to the first-ever release of “Butterfly ’09” on a physical CD, the Japanese edition also includes two, new bonus remixes of “Koko Soko”!! Orange Summer, who previously did a remix of “Boys” for Hime Trance 2, provides a trance remix. Meanwhile, Akiba Koubou give the track a Japanese eurobeat remix. Samples can be found at Dreamusic’s special Smile.dk website: http://www.dreamusic.co.jp/sp/smile_dk/

Billed as the “Koko, Soko, Asoko!! Song,” Smile.dk’s “Koko Soko” is making waves in Japan. It’s currently sitting at number 17 on the ZIP-FM Dance Charts and will no doubt move up even more in following weeks. Dreamusic have even put up a music video of sorts:

Oh, and even though the early list didn’t have “Heal My Broken Heart” listed, it is indeed on the final track list.

Smile.dkMake Up Collection 2010
Artist: Smile.dk
Release Date: 2010

Various Smile.dk news to report. First and foremost, Smile.dk has lost another member as Hannah has decided to leave the group. Replacing her will be Cecilia Reiskog, pictured on the right. Veronica and Cecilia are still in the process of recording vocals for the album, and have revealed that “Golden Sky” will be one of the songs remade.

The official Smile.dk website has also been revamped.

Party Around the WorldParty Around the World ~Nico Nico dk ga Yattekitaaaaaa~
Release Date: 7/21/10
Price: 2405 yen

Party Around the World finally gets a Japanese release almost two years after it originally came out. Oddly, the Almighty mix of “Heal My Broken Heart” has been replaced with the new United Forces version of “Butterfly.” There should be enough room on the CD for both, though, and I’m still hoping for more bonus mixes.

Update! CDJapan’s description mentions that there’ll also be trance and eurobeat versions of “Butterfly,” for a total of 15 tracks.

Smile.dkMake Up Collection 2010
Artist: Smile.dk
Release Date: 2010

KDJ Eurodance Ltd. have a new interview up with Smile.dk with lots of interesting tidbits. First of all, they’ve announced that Party Around the World will finally see a release in China and Japan this year. They list their Japanese label as Dreamusic Japan, who are best known for their Super Anime Remix compilations. There’s no set release date for the Japanese edition just yet.

Most interesting of all, however, is official confirmation of a new album in 2010! The long-rumored remix album is apparently still in the works, and is tentatively titled “Make Up Collection 2010.” According to the interview the album will feature remakes of their biggest hits as well as new songs. S&K announced ages ago that they were collaborating with the Smile.dk team, so hopefully we’ll see that come to fruition. I’m also hoping Almighty return with another great remix.

So, what songs do you want to see remade? I’m sure we’ll see most, if not all, of the DDR songs (Butterfly, Boys, Mr. Wonderful, etc.), but I’d also like for them to tackle the lesser-known tracks. I’ve always been partial to the oft-overlooked “Happy in Love.” “Love & Devotion” is another old favorite that’s just begging for a remix. From Golden Sky, I’d like to see “Maybe” given a dance mix.

Butterfly 09

The 2009 remake of “Butterfly” is finally out! Featuring Veronica and Malin on vocals, it’s a complete reworking of the original. Okay, maybe not so much. Vocals aside, it’s mostly the same as the original, with a few added flourishes. For instance, they definitely took some cues from the Delaction remix.

Anyway, the song is up for download on a variety of digital download services:

iTunes

Only a radio edit is available for now. I’m assuming a longer edit will appear on the rumored remix album.

DDR SDance Dance Revolution S
Release Date: 4/15/09
Price: 1500 yen

Konami recently released a digital soundtrack for their mobile DDR game, Dance Dance Revolution S. It’s mostly notable for featuring a new remix of the Naoki and Smile.dk collaboration, “A Geisha’s Dream.” The remix is nothing outstanding, but it is a nice change of pace from the original, which was too similar to “Butterfly” for my liking.

The soundtrack is available for purchase on iTunes.

DDR XDance Dance Revolution X & FuruFuru Party Original Soundtrack
Release Date: 3/11/09 (Retail Version), 1/29/09 (Konamistyle Version)
Price: 3048 yen

The Japanese version of DDR X is out now, and someone graciously uploaded “A Geisha’s Dream” to YouTube:

Ahem. Let’s go back to what I said in my Party Around the World review:

And will someone please tell Smile.dk to stop using the words “samurai” and “butterfly”? It was cute in Doo-Be-Di-Boy, but it’s 2008, people.

It’s 2009 now. I like the song well enough, but it’s too lyrically, not to mention musically, derivative of “Butterfly.” There’s absolutely no reason for that. We’ve had at least one “Butterfly” retread per album, and it’s way past time for Smile.dk to move on. “Tokyo,” “Koko Soko,” and other songs have shown that it’s possible for them to do Japan-themed songs without resorting to cheap “Butterfly” callbacks, so please let “A Geisha’s Dream” be the last one.

DDR XDance Dance Revolution X & FuruFuru Party Original Soundtrack
Release Date: 3/11/09
Price: 3048 yen

It was previously announced that a collaboration between Naoki and Smile.dk would be appearing on the Japanese version of DDR X, and we now have a song title: A Geisha’s Dream. A Japanese-themed song from Smile.dk?! Shock!

A full version of the song will be appearing on the upcoming DDR X + FuruFuru Party OST. Check out the rest of the track list at Bemanistyle.

Unlike the last few OSTs, which were available exclusively through Konamistyle, this one will also be published by Sony Music Entertainment, meaning that it will be available at various retailers. You can pre-order the 3-disc OST at CDJapan. 3200 yen is a surprisingly good price for 3 discs.

X-mas Party

Smile.dk have just put up a brand new, free download of “X-mas Party” on their official website. “X-mas Party” is a Christmas version of “Summer Party,” one of the best tracks off Party Around the World. In addition to sleigh bells and electric guitars, the remix also features slightly different vocals to make for a truly festive eurodance song. It’s just a shame they didn’t replace the “acting naughty” lyric, as it sounds completely out of place in a song that features Santa. I thought naughty kids get coal in their stockings?

While you’re in the holiday spirit, why not check out Me & My’s “Too Much Christmas,” which is available digitally on iTunes.
