Anime SpeedAnime Speed
Release Date: 12/10/08
Price: 1905 yen

Anime mania continues. EMI are once again bringing the Speed series to the forefront, following Hime Trance Speed with the release of Anime Speed. The only problem? It’s out already. Yup, right now this looks like a simple re-release of a 3-year-old album, except without the copy protection that the original CD had.

Now, it’s certainly possible that some things may change. I do think there’s an off chance that there’ll be a new cover featuring a random anime girl. That way it’ll match the dozens of other anime dance releases out there.

Here’s the original track list again:

01. [3:00] Cha-la Head-cha-la / Lee Tairon
02. [3:17] Anata Dake Mitsumeteru / Yoko Kobayashi
03. [2:59] Hajimete no Chu / Luna
04. [2:58] Anpanman no March / Nuts
05. [2:17] Lum no Love Song / maruyamakumi
06. [2:36] Zankoku na Tenshi no These / Nuts
07. [2:46] Odoru Pompokolin / P*Smile
08. [3:12] Cutey Honey / HiNa
09. [3:18] Cat’s Eye / Yoko Kobayashi
10. [2:40] Hohoemi no Bakudan / HiNa
11. [2:30] Sazae-san / P*Smile
12. [2:51] Ai wo Torimodose!! / Lee Tairon
13. [2:28] Mononoke Hime / Forrest

S&K

DJ Kirk has confirmed that digital downloads should be available in about 3 weeks on Amazon, Music Load, and iTunes.

Again, you can listen to samples of their old and new songs here: http://sandkmusic.com/pages/music.php

I wonder if the rest of the Black Forest catalogue will go up as well? Steve Rhyner did quite a few tracks for Dancemania Speed as well, but so far it seems that only S&K’s tracks are going up.

Release Date: 9/18/08
Price: $9.99

Party Around the World is now available on iTunes Plus! The album is also available digitally on Limewire and LaLa. Unfortunately, it seems that the album is only available in the US at the moment, so those outside the US may have to wait for the physical release on October 28.

DDR X
…and it’s largely disappointing when it comes to the licenses. The 2008 X-edits are indeed just edits of the originals, generally using the second verses in place of the first verses. I’m told that they play well, but new remixes would’ve been much better.

As far as I know the only other revival not mentioned so far is Smile.dk’s “Boys.” No Captain Jack O_O

Release Date: 9/9/08
Price: $12.99

Amazon now lists the release date as October 28. According to the official site, there was a problem with manufacturing and it’ll take a few weeks to sort out. It’s not like CDs are manufactured on the day of release, though, so I’m wondering why we’re only finding out about this problem now.

In any case, the Smile.dk team was gracious enough to put up a free download of “Doki Doki” to make up for the delay:

Turkish BazarThe new Captain Jack single is slated for release on September 18, but Juno Download has samples up now:

Turkish Bazar (Single)
Turkish Bazar (House Mixes)

The house mix isn’t too bad, though I oddly prefer the reggaeton version. Still, would it have killed them to make a eurodance mix for old times’ sake?

DDR XMore licenses announced! In addition to “Get Up ‘n Move” (which has been confirmed as receiving a new DDR X-edit), there’s also a new edit of Papaya’a “Hero.” Of course, it wouldn’t be DDR w/o Captain Jack, so I’d be surprised if one of his songs didn’t make an appearance. E-Rotic would be great as well, but they didn’t even appear on Party Collection so I won’t hold my breath.

2.) GET UP’N MOVE (2008 X-edit) – “Get dancing to this DDR classic track, reworked exclusively for DanceDanceRevolution X! With a healthy dose of Hip-Hop and Dance, “”GET UP’N MOVE”” has an energy and rhythm perfectly suited for the DDR dancefloor. “”GET UP’N MOVE”” was featured in the early DDR arcade machines throughout Japan.”

3.) HERO (2008 X-edit) – “First appearing in the early DDR arcade machines all over Japan, “”HERO”” has been reworked exclusively for DanceDanceRevolution X! “”HERO”” is a shining example of Danish Eurodance music. It’s melody, both light and catchy, capture the attention and lead you on a rhythm filled journey of delight.”

S&K

S&K finally updated their official website with some great news: “Get Up ‘n Move” will be featured on DDR X! That makes it the third confirmed returning license so far.

Additionally, S&K have put up samples of their new songs: http://sandkmusic.com/pages/music.php

The new songs as well as S&K’s entire back catalogue will soon be available on iTunes, Amazon, and MusicLoad.de

Dance Dance Revolution X

Konami recently announced a default song list for the upcoming DDR game, Dance Dance Revolution X, and there were a few surprises included.

http://www.ddronlinecommunity.com/forums/3/forum_topics/428

10.) Butterfly (2008 X-edit) – The mega-hit “Butterfly” was released on the original DanceDanceRevolution in Japan. Now, ushering in a new decade of DDR sounds, “Butterfly” has been reworked exclusively for DanceDanceRevolution X! Enjoy it’s familiar, “impossible to resist”, melody, while exploring the fresh new arrangement.

11.) DUB-I-DUB (2008 X-edit) – Making a sensation both on and off the DDR dance-floor, “Dub-I-Dub” has been reworked exclusively for DanceDanceRevolution X! “Dub-I-Dub” was first released in 1995, and was featured in the early DDR machines throughout Japan.

The wording seems intentionally vague, so it’s a bit unclear whether the songs will be actual remixes or merely just edits of the original. It also remains to be seen if any other classic Dancemania songs will receive the “X-edit” treatment.

Jenny Rom

Saifam released this on iTunes in early June, but I never noticed. ^^; It’s a compilation of all of Jenny Rom’s songs (just the slower dance versions, unfortunately) plus that megamix Saifam produced recently. If you were to buy these tracks from Saifam’s website it would cost you the equivalent of about 22 bucks, but this album is only $11.99. Plus, you get the tracks in 256 kbps instead of Saifam’s 192.

The Cartoon World of Jenny Rom

X-Treme is back!

Spankox

Well, sort of. Agostino Carollo recently released an official Elvis remix album titled Elvis vs. Spankox – Re:Versions under his Spankox alias. Surprisingly, he revived his old Eyes Cream and X-Treme aliases for a few of the remix names.

01. Baby, Let’s Play House (Spankox Re:Version – Highpass Radio Edit)
02. Don’t Be Cruel (Spankox Re:Version – Highpass Radio Edit)
03. (Let Me Be Your) Teddy Bear (Spankox Re:Version – Highpass Album Cut)
04. Jailhouse Rock (Spankox Re:Version – Highpass Radio Edit)
05. All Shook Up (Spankox Re:Version – Highpass Album Cut)
06. Blue Moon of Kentucky (Spankox Re:Version – Highpass Album Cut)
07. Heartbreak Hotel (Spankox Re:Version – Ago Radio Edit)
08. Too Much (Spankox Re:Version – Highpass Album Cut)
09. Just Because (Spankox Re:Version – Eyes Cream 3AM Short Mix)
10. You’re a Heartbreaker (Spankox Re:Version – Highpass Radio Edit)
11. That’s All Right (Spankox Re:Version – X-Treme Edit)

There are samples up at Elvis News. Some of the arrangements are catchy (and others less so), but the “X-Treme” track doesn’t sound anything like the old X-Treme style. 🙁

Captain Jack – Best of DVD
icon1 DanceMaster | icon2 Dance, Dancemania | icon4 07 22nd, 2008| icon31 Comment »

Coming November 2008, presumably in Germany and other European territories. I remember that they originally wanted to release a DVD to coincide with the Greatest Hits album back in 2005, but nothing ever materialized. Maybe this time it’ll actually come out. It’d certainly be nice to have all of CJ’s videos in one place.

And something else I never knew: Franky Gee wasn’t the original CJ. o_O According to the official website, he was preceded by a guy named James Durbin.

Smile.dk … remixed by Almighty!

http://www.smiledk-music.com/discography/party-around-the-world/

Bonus Heal My Broken Heart (Almighty Definitive Mix)

This is certainly exciting news, especially since Almighty will be using their energetic definitive style that worked so well for Scooch and A*Teens. I also think it’s great that they’re remixing one of their lesser-known tracks rather than “Butterfly” for the umpteenth time. DJ Slash did mention that entire remix album was in the works, so I can’t wait to see what they have in store for us!

Captain Jack is back!
icon1 DanceMaster | icon2 Dance, Dancemania | icon4 07 20th, 2008| icon3No Comments »

No, really, that’s actually the name of the album: Captain Jack Is Back. The new album comes out October 16, while a new single, Turkish Bazar, will come out on September 19. There’s a music video for the single at CJ’s official website:

http://www.captain-jack.de/

Uhh, okay. This is obviously not what the fans have been clamoring for. Unfortunately, Eurodance is no longer a viable genre, well, anywhere. Dancehall is what’s hot in Japan at the moment, so maybe that’s why CJ went down that route. Still, one has to wonder why they’re bothering at all. Can’t we just let CJ rest in peace?
