Cover art and final list have been released for this compilation of 90s pop and dance classics. It’s the usual fare from Smile.dk, Me & My, MC Hammer, Bellini, and more. Nothing terribly interesting.
After being delayed from January to February, this 80s pop compilation was then delayed further to March. It seems like they’ve finally settled on a date as well as a track list. Pretty standard set of 80s tracks that Dancemania fans have seen countless times. Judging by the track lengths, this won’t be a non-stop mix.
Titanium (Single)
Artist: David Guetta feat. Che’Nelle
Release Date: 2/6/13
Price: 500 yen
Special Japanese version of the hit David Guetta song, released to commemorate the “Ultimate” edition of “Nothing But the Beat.” The popular songstress, Che’Nelle, provides the vocals for this new version. She doesn’t quite match Sia’s power, but it’s quite novel hearing parts of the song in Japanese. Also features a new remix by a Japanese DJ, Mitomi Tokoto. Available on iTunes Japan.
Digital only release from EMI that’s somewhat related to their Drive ga 100-bai Tanoshiku Naru series. The first part of the title translates roughly to “Make Housework Go by 100 Times Faster,” hence the cover art. The track list consists of 80s and 90s eurodance hits. It’s also up on iTunes Japan, where it’s listed as Top Cheer Up Songs (House Keeping Edition).
Originally scheduled for release in late January, this has been delayed to late February. This entry in the Drive ga 100-bai series features 90s dance classics from the likes of Spice Girls, Me & My, Smile.dk, MC Hammer, Bellini, and a whole host of other names you’ve seen in Dancemania before.
The “Drive ga 100-bai” series rolls on next January February with another pair of releases. If there’s anything that EMI love to repeat more than AKBK Eurobeat, it’s 80s and 90s classics. This compilation has 80s mainstays from Culture Club, Kylie, Blondie, Duran Duran, and more.
Ninth release in the V.I.P. series. Previous releases focused more on R&B/Hip-Hop, but lately they’ve been including more and more dance tracks. If I didn’t know any better I would’ve thought this was EDM 2. o_O
Hit anime themes remade in an 80s disco-pop style. Got my copy a few days ago and it’s mostly enjoyable. I’m not gonna lie, I don’t immediately recognize what served as the inspiration for most of the tracks. Many of the songs on the first Anim80s used rather distinctive synths or beats that made their inspirations clear. For example, “Cat’s Eye” was unmistakably modeled after “Beat It” while “Shuuketsu no Sono e” imitated the synths from “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.” The songs on Anim80s 2 don’t quite have the same recognizable hooks. However, there were many times when I was listening to the album and thought, “Wow, this sounds really familiar,” but couldn’t place the source material. In some ways it’s better that way in that it lets the productions stand on their own, but I kind of miss the fun in comparing the songs to the originals, so to speak.
Hopefully this will lead to Anim90s, as unpronounceable as that may be. I’d love to hear the themes in classic 90s eurodance style.
The album is available on iTunes JP and other Japanese download services, but as with the first Anim80s it’s mixed, so no full versions. 🙁
