This remix CD will be coming out almost a full year after Re:Construction Anima was released. All of the tracks from the first CD will be appearing with new remixes. There’ll also be 4 new songs. No word yet on who will be doing the new remixes, much less what style they’ll be.
From the makers of Piano Master and the Anime Nitro series comes this Evangelion cover CD. The songs are done in a jazzy piano house style, and include vocals when appropriate. You can listen to samples on iTunes Japan.
A special digital release of AHP Oshare Selection with 4 new songs. It’s now available on iTunes Japan. Oddly enough, it’s 600 yen cheaper than the previous digital release of Oshare Selection.
Speedisko Vol. 2 finally sees a release after a short delay. The album is now up for sale on iTunes and Amazon for $7.92.
“I Wanna Be a Ninja” is the lead track and happens to be one of my favorites on the album. I could do without the sped-up vocals, but I love the use of Japanese instruments and the lyrics are undeniably catchy. Who doesn’t want to be a ninja?!
Another standout song, and perhaps my favorite on the album, is “Space Space Shooter,” a eurobeat track with lots of 8-bit samples. Space Invaders is an obvious inspiration and after listening to this I’m suddenly finding myself in the mood for some alien-blasting action.
Speaking of video games, Thomas H. Lichtenstein of DDR fame also makes an appearance on the album with “Keep It Real.” The song tries to imitate the Hyper Techno sound, but falls a little short. The synths are certainly there, but it lacks the energy of a true hyper techno song, particularly during the verses. I’d love to hear it with a different, more fitting remix.
Chris Jay, who previously did an awesome 80s PWL mix of “Oh Oh Sexy Vampire,” returns for Speedisko 2 with another retro-inspired track. This time, it’s a 90s eurodance remix of Peroxide Mocha’s “Don’t Have My Baby.” The vocalist is great on the song, and sings the hysterical lyrics without a hint of irony.
Disko Warp recently provided some songs for Andamiro’s Pump It Up Pro 2 arcade game and released an accompanying digital soundtrack. If you’ve been following Disko Warp for a while then most of these songs aren’t new to you. However, there are a couple of new bonus remixes included. The soundtrack is up for sale on Amazon and iTunes. It’s slightly cheaper on Amazon ($8.99 versus $9.90 on iTunes).
Big Band*Ghibli
Artist: AKBB (Akatsuka Kenichi Big Band)
Release Date: 7/7/10
Price: 2000 yen
Ghibli Big Band style! The up-tempo tracks sound great, but “Umi no Mieru Machi” is a little too lounge-y for me. The album is also available on iTunes Japan.
Toho Euro Flash is yet another doujin-produced eurobeat album that will make its debut this week at C78. As with Toho Eurobeat, TEF will collect eurobeat remakes of Touhou songs. The album will be arranged and mixed by the one and only DJ Command of Akiba Koubou. Visit the official website for more info: http://nijika.net/rec04/
Doujin release featuring eurobeat covers of popular touhou songs. It’ll first be available during C78 at a special price of 1,000 yen. After that, it’ll be available in Japanese shops for 1,400 yen. It’s unlikely that major online retailers will carry it, though.
Most notable are a pair of Akiba Koubou artists, Rayto and DJ Command. Travis Stebbins, better known to SEB fans as Ken Blast, also provides vocals for two songs.
Long-T! OHC! Ryu*! kors k! DJ Command! Rayto! I think I’ve died and gone to J-Dance heaven. If the producers weren’t enough to entice you, the album also has a who’s who of vocalists. Shihori, Nagisa, and Mi->Na represent Akiba Koubou, and the Hime Trance queen, Kei, also makes an appearance. The rest of the artists include popular Nico Nico singers and producers, including Hana-tan, nayuta, baker, and IOSYS.
I’m most excited about “Naraku no Hana” being done by DJ Kaya. ^_^
One of my favorite Dancemania Speed songs gets a trance makeover! Chris Bucknall, half of the duo known as CJ Crew, now runs Cubit Records, a new UK label that focuses on Pop and Dance. He’s decided to revisit one of his original works, “Another Way,” which originally appeared on Speed Giga 4 ~ Dancemania Speed Evolution. As far as I can tell the vocals are the same on this remake. The entire single (6 tracks in all) is available for only $2.49 at 7digital!
Unfortunately, there’s no Speed remix :{
That reminds me, I really should work on that CJ Crew feature…
A compilation of eurobeat anime song covers. Can anyone guess who’ll be producing? Yup, that’s right, Akiba Koubou. However, there will be appearances by the likes of Ryu*, Overhead Champion, and Long-T.
“Sousei” and “Zankoku” have been announced (uggh), but so has “Naraku no Hana” (yay!).
