Captain Jack is back with another update of a classic CJ song, this time with lots of new remixes of “Give It Up.” Remixers include Ace da Brain, Marc Reason, Black$$star, Damon Paul, and many others. Captain Jack also has yet another new female vocalist, Michelle Stanley, who replaces Laura Martin after 3 years. The official Captain Jack website also has a new design, though there’s not much there yet.

When Universal took over EMI I thought it would be the death knell for EMI compilations, but somehow they’re releasing them more than ever. The digital version of this CD was released back in December. I have no idea why they waited 6 months to release the physical CD, though I’m assuming the CD version will have more than the 16 tracks that the digital version had.
Enka Speed

I…what? Huh? Is this real life? In late May, EMI will release a new compilation titled, “Enka Speed.” Now, keep in mind that it’s not yet confirmed that this will be a Dancemania release, but after Speed Buyuuden no theme would surprise me. Enka is a style of Japanese pop ballads that’s primarily popular among older generations. In other words, it’s the complete opposite of Speed, so it’ll be interesting to see how they combine the different styles. If this is indeed a Dancemania release, then hopefully it’s produced by Saifam or Ventura, and isn’t just a bunch of pitched up repeats from Akiba Koubou like those abominable Utatte Mita Speed releases.

New compilation from FARM Records. CDJapan’s description says it’ll be a “Hi-Speed BPM Mix,” even though DJ Roc the Masaki is known more for his house megamixes. There’s no mention of how fast the BPMs will be, though I’ll be disappointed if their idea of hi-speed is 160 BPM. -_- The early track list is interesting, at least if you’re a fan of 2012 pop. Expect around 35 tracks total on the final list.
Hyper Funkot ~ Chousoku Dance Tracks

Speed returns to EMI in the form of…funkot? EMI’s newest compilation features funkot, or Indonesian happy hardcore. There’s a good chance DJ Jet Baron will be mixing and selecting this compilation, as he’s currently living in Japan and has collaborated with EMI in the past.

EDM ~Electronic Dance Madness~ 4

Universal’s acquisition of EMI Music Japan (now EMI Records Japan) is now complete, and it looks like EMI will continue to operate as a subsidiary. As such, EDM 4’s release will arrive on schedule this June, though it still remains to be seen how the sale of various EMI assets to Warner Music will affect which artists will appear on EDM. It’s also highly likely that many Universal artists will begin appearing more often on EDM.

New song from the Canadian duo, this time featuring vocals by DDR legend, Thomas Howard Lichtenstein. No word on when the track will be released, but UK hardcore producer Chris Unknown has put his remix of the track up on SoundCloud.
Radio Gosha x Disko Warp: Living a Colorful Life

A new CD+DVD set compiling Radio Gosha’s music videos for Disko Warp as well as a bonus remix CD. The remix CD is available digitally, on Disko Warp’s Bandcamp page, Amazon MP3, or iTunes.
I got my copy last week and the remixes are amazing. DJ Command delivered an awesomely energetic Eurobeat remix of “Space Space Shooter” with a few hyper techno influences to boot. Meanwhile, DJ Shimamura’s Speed Trance/Hardcore remix of “Oh Oh Oh Sexy Vampire” turned out even more epic than I imagined it would. Other stand-out tracks include the Rainbowdragoneyes chiptune remix of “Hej Sokoly” and J-Mi & Midi-D’s BPM-shifting remix of “Pussy Game.”
Disko Warp presents Hardcore Advance ~Nonstop Hardcore × Hyper Techno

Disko Warp’s latest release will be a non-stop mix CD in the vein of Dancemania Speed. And just like Dancemania these days, it’s all repeats! Kidding aside, there are actually 4 new songs, including a 2013 update of “Lolitabot.” That explains Lolitabot’s appearance on the cover art, illustrated once again by Chevi. Other new tracks include remixes by Francisco Gaitan and J-Mi & Midi-D, plus a new Initial P production. The rest of the track list includes some of Disko Warp’s biggest hits, as well as remixes by DJ Command, Honmax, and others.
A physical CD is available for $15, and includes downloads of full-length tracks. Otherwise, the digital version of the non-stop mix is $12.
Supereurobeat

Volumes 36-39 of LED’s Supereurobeat series have finally been released to iTunes this March. I was starting to think Luigi Stanga would never get around to releasing the rest of the catalogue, but with these four releases I believe all of LED’s Eurobeat songs are now available on iTunes. Vol. 36-38 are primarily composed of tracks that were licensed to FARM for their Eurobeat compilations, as well as tracks from EMI’s Natsu Monogatari series. Many of these tracks have been available for quite a while on Juno Download. However, there were two tracks from Natsu Monogatari 2009 that have never been available for purchase. Until now.
That’s right, Supereurobeat Vol. 39 features the digital debuts of both “Destination to Desire” and “Good Night Tokyo,” the final two songs released by LED Records/Vibration. They’re listed under different artists than they were on Dancemania, but they’re unmistakably the same tracks.
Also noteworthy is “Re-light My Fire” on Vol. 38, which I always forget is an LED track. It appeared on Happy Paradise 2 but apparently has never been released digitally, either. Good on LED for remembering to release it.
I’m glad the entirety of LED’s catalogue is now available, but it seems somewhat bittersweet because there’s an aura of finality surrounding their release. It’s as if we can never again expect anything new from LED. 🙁
